Get to Know Relyco – Tyler Ruane, eCommerce Marketing & Sales Manager

Tyler Ruane

Tyler Ruane, eCommerce Marketing & Sales Manager

Tyler Ruane has worked at Relyco for a little over a year. He started out as a Business Development Representative and is now our eCommerce Marketing & Sales Manager, which is a new and exciting role! He stays busy optimizing and growing our online store, creating accounts, spearheading various marketing campaigns, representing Relyco at trade shows and working with customers.

Tyler is really funny and always up for a laugh. Our marketing team consists of Jon, Julia, Kara, Steph and Tyler. Many of us have nicknames: Tyler’s is T-Bone. We are a close-knit group and we razz each other all the time. Tyler delights in going for an outrageous tease to keep things light and fun. He is also good buddies with Kyle and trash-talking each other seems to be one of their greatest bonding activities.

Tyler & Steph’s yogurt time usually happens between 10-11am

But don’t be fooled, Tyler is a really sweet guy. He is a genuine friend and cares about his co-workers a lot. He often eats lunch with Kyle or Brenda and he does “yogurt-time” with Steph every morning in her cubicle. (His cube is right next door.) Tyler asks after our pets, partners and plans outside of work. He’s a good listener and, of course, gets a few sly jokes in there too.

One other thing about Tyler – he’s really into sneakers. Like, REALLY into them. He has about 20 colorful pairs of new and retro kicks. He’s a collector and sometimes sells them as a hobby. Tyler says that he acquires some of them because he thinks they’re cool and others are just nostalgic. Check out the ones he’s rocking in the yogurt-time photo. Lookin’ good, T-Bone! Let’s jump into the interview:

What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Outgoing, sarcastic, sports-enthusiast.

What’s your favorite season?
Fall because we have sports, then we have Thanksgiving and all the good seasonal beers.

How long is your commute to work?
Probably under 5 minutes.

Where did you grow up?
Various parts of Massachusetts and Maine. I was born in Salem, MA and then I lived in Haverhill for about 13 years. Eventually, I moved to Berwick, Maine and I went to high school there and went to college at UMaine. After I graduated, I lived and worked in Boston for awhile.

Do you drink coffee or tea in the morning?
Coffee, but I’ve been starting to get into tea a little bit because I heard it’s good for you. And I kinda like it! I do love me some green tea, but I also love very dark, black coffee.

What’s your favorite smell?
I love when I get a brand new pair of shoes. Fresh out of the box. Brand new leather and it’s got that new shoe smell.

Who was the last person you texted?
The First Lady. [that’s what he jokingly calls his girlfriend]

Describe your happy place.
I like two things. I like the gym because no matter what’s going on in the world, it kind of allows you to block things out. You can just focus on getting a good workout and doing something productive outside of work. It’s really good to clear your mind. Another thing that I really want to get back into – I used to love just shooting around a basketball. I would just put some headphones on and shoot hoops. That’s always been therapeutic for me. But that’s a happy place I haven’t visited in awhile.

What’s your favorite thing about Relyco?
Not to sound corny, but I really like the team I’m with and the people I work with. The thing is, you’re going to be with these people for probably more hours than your loved ones and family, so being able to get along with them and, you know, have some fun in the workplace is good.

Where is/was your favorite place to visit while traveling?
Nashville. Incredible barbeque, good music and easy livin’. Can’t go wrong with Tennessee whiskey either.

What’s your favorite song to dance to?
K-Ci & JoJo, All My Life or Boyz II Men, End of the Road. I can’t decide.

If you could hang out with someone (living or deceased) for the day, who would you pick?
Frank Sinatra.
