For banks and other financial institutions, the Check 21 Act involves some fairly complicated changes to their software, hardware, and the systems that they use to process checks.  From the perspective of the average business, however, the ramifications of Check 21 are much clearer and simpler.  The long and short of it is that banks will now be scanning checks so that they can reduce or eliminate float time by transferring funds electronically.  What this means to you is that your check stock will now have to be “scannable”, or to use industry terminology, your checks must be “Image Friendly".
