Relyco Reaches Out

On Saturday, September 30th 2006, “Team Relyco” participated in the Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in York, Maine. This is a nationwide event to build awareness of blood cancers and raise funds to help find cures. Walkers carried illuminated balloons and beginning at the York ball field took a 3 mile walk along the shore, up to Nubble Lighthouse and back. There were more than 1,200 people walking in this event, and the overall donations for the York walkers reached an all time high of $60,000.00!

This was our teams’ first year participating, and we set an overall goal of $1,000.00. Relyco employees sponsored our team as a whole, and each team member solicited sponsors and donations individually. Our team was very successful and raised a grand total of $2,525.00, despite starting our fund raising efforts well after most teams had begun.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society was created in 1949, by the Robert Roesler de Villiers foundation, in memory of their son. Since its creation, the Society has raised more than $425 million in research dollars, and this research has helped change the face of a disease once thought of as 100% fatal to one with a variety of successful treatment options.
