How does it work? The
specially formulated Troy Security MICR Toner contains a unique dye that
is released when exposed to substances containing acetone (i.e.
industrial cleaning solvents), ethyl acetate (i.e. nail polish remover)
or toluene (i.e. paint thinner) – all substances used to remove or
“wash” toner from checks in order to alter the amount, payee name, or
other pertinent information. This makes it obvious that a check
has been tampered with, as the activated dye causes an unmistakable and
indelible red stain to appear in the affected area.
