Stephanie Metcalf
Stephanie Metcalf, Sales Development Representative

Stephanie Metcalf has worked at Relyco since April 2017. She serves as one of our Account Executives. Her attention to detail is both appreciated and admired by her co-workers. She is extremely thorough and we love her for it!

Stephanie is an outgoing and down-to-earth person. She’s not shy and seems able to talk to just about anyone, which makes Stephanie an excellent networker; she often attends after-hours events at our local Chamber of Commerce on Relyco’s behalf.

She has a long-running joke with Kara and Steph O about their collective sense of style; all three ladies seem to show up to work wearing very similar outfits each day. Her sense of humor is ironic and self-deprecating, so she fits right in with our culture, where the majority of us share that same wit. Check out her interview below to learn more about Stephanie:

What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Motivated, outgoing, charismatic. Those are my mother’s favorites.

How long is your commute to work?
1.6 miles. [she laughs] So 6-8 minutes, depending on the lights. I also, as a sidebar, frequently order my Starbucks coffee and go the long way because if I order it when I leave my house, then it’s ready when I get to Starbucks. Then I can walk in, pick it up and then come into work. I have a caffeine addiction.

Do you drink coffee or tea in the morning?
Coffee! I drink coffee all day, yeah. I usually do two cups in the morning and one in the afternoon. I’m currently drinking a Red Bull sugar-free because coffee just didn’t do the trick today.

Who was the last person you texted?
My friend, Cassie.

Do you have a favorite pen?
This really is my favorite pen! It’s my Relyco IPS pen!

Stephanie’s favorite pen

What do you wish your customers knew?
I wish they knew how much effort we put into our customer service. I really do, every time I speak to a customer, make sure that I have their best interests in mind. We want to be competitive with pricing, but we also care about their projects and the things that we do with our customers. As a backstory, I came from large corporations and I think that gets lost a lot, so the small family feel, where you actually get to know the person that you’re dealing with is important to me. It’s part of what I like about working at Relyco.

Describe your happy place.
The beach. In a nice chair with a beverage. [She’s not alone in that! Many of our staff members mentioned a beach: Michelle, Lyndsay, Jennie and Tyler P.]

If you could talk to your 16-year-old self, what advice would you give?
Calm down. You just kind of learn to take it as it comes. Life throws you a lot of curveballs and I think I’ve learned how to take them and just kind of roll with the punches.

Your house is on fire, what’s the one thing you grab?
My two cats: Danny & Dougie and if they had the good sense to run out of the house – which they would because as soon as the door opens they try to escape – I would grab my blankey from my childhood, which I still have. I’ve had it since I was born.

Where is/was your favorite place to visit while traveling?
My favorite place was Disney World, Epcot specifically. Now as an adult, as I’ve gone to more places, my favorite place was Ireland.

What’s your favorite song to dance to?
Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars

If you could hang out with someone (living or deceased) for the day, who would you pick?
My grandmother. She lives like two hours away. I just don’t get to see her as much. I lived with my grandparents up until I was ten. So we would probably end up going out to lunch, T.J.Maxx, Marshalls, Kohls and then having a very large glass of wine in front of the fire.

Before she became an Account Executive, Stephanie served as a Sales Development Representative. After gaining tons of product knowledge and experience, Stephanie moved into her new role, where she works with new and repeat customers. She also specializes in our Integrated Payment Solutions and has a wealth of knowledge about AP automation. So it’s not always just talking paper when she’s working with folks!

Get to Know Relyco – Joni van Gelder, Senior Account Executive

Joni van Gelder is a Senior Account Executive and our “webinar queen.” She has worked at Relyco for almost 15 years. One of the first things you’ll notice about Joni is how witty she is. Joni is always ready to serve a sly comeback or slick line to get people laughing.

Joni van Gelder is one of our Senior Account Executives. She has worked at Relyco for over 15 years. One of the first things you’ll notice about Joni is how witty she is. And she’s quick about it! Joni is always ready to serve a sly comeback or slick line to get people laughing. She has all of the traits of an excellent storyteller: a commanding presence, a flair for the dramatics and she can seamlessly weave together several different threads to tell a compelling (and usually funny) story.

We call Joni the “webinar queen” because she hosts many of our webinars. The average person might not know it, but it is surprisingly difficult to host webinars. You’ve got to be a solid public speaker and have the ability to adjust on the spot when technical difficulties arise. Problems don’t happen too often, but it’s inevitable when you host enough webinars; lost connections, frozen screens, power outages, slide deck mishaps…you name it, it has happened to Joni over the years. But she is unflappable. She just rolls with it in the moment and moves right along.

Joni serves on Relyco’s Community Service Team and she organizes the annual holiday gift project, through which Relyco gives gifts to local children whose families need some help during the holidays. Joni got the project going in 2003 for 14 kids and it has since grown into a program for 100+ kids yearly. Over the last fifteen years, Relyco has donated gifts for 500+ children. From compiling the numbers to calling the 50+ families to see what their kids would like for the holidays, Joni plays a huge role in the project each year.

Interviewing her for this piece was a fun time because she gave some pretty unique answers. Nobody else suggested grabbing a fire extinguisher for the tenth question, that’s for sure! Check it out:

What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Determined, courageous, funny.

How long is your commute to work?
About 35 minutes. When working from home, it’s about 40′ to my den.

Where did you grow up?
Lebanon, NH.

Do you drink coffee or tea in the morning?
Coffee. I hate tea.

What’s your favorite smell?
Oh, it’s hard to describe. Spring. The smell of everything new.

What do you wish your customers knew?
I hope they know that we genuinely want to help them. Sometimes we have to ask so many questions because of the intricacy of what they’re trying to do. That can put some customers off. But we’re asking these questions because we really want to get it right.

Describe your happy place.
Cooking.

What’s your favorite thing about Relyco?
The people.

If you could talk to your 16-year-old self, what advice would you give?
Don’t change a thing.

Your house is on fire, what’s the one thing you grab?
The fire extinguisher.

Describe Relyco in three words.
Busy…busy, busy. [she laughs]

Where is/was your favorite place to visit while traveling?
I spent two nights camping in Simpson Desert in Australia. I got to lay under the stars and look at the Southern Cross. It took my breath away. We were there for six weeks. We rented a camper and drove all around the continent. It was amazing. Great Barrier Reef cruises, Ayers Rock, yeah, it was glorious.

Joni’s customers often order pressure seal solutions, custom products and REVLAR waterproof synthetic paper, but she is well educated in a range of products, so you can go to her for anything! She works with a variety of clients and many of our major OEM partners. To contact Joni, send her an email at jvangelder@relyco.com or connect with her on LinkedIn here. Get to Know Relyco – Rob DuMond, Senior Government Sales Representative

Rob primarily works with government and military accounts, though not exclusively. Rob is friendly, but to-the-point in most of his interactions, which is probably due to his own military background in the Air Force.

Rob DuMond, Senior Government Sales Representative
Rob DuMond, Senior Government Sales Representative

Rob has worked at Relyco for eight years. He serves as a Senior Government Sales Representative, which means that he primarily works with government and military accounts, though not exclusively.

He has a pretty low-key personality. Rob is friendly, but to-the-point in most of his interactions, which is probably due to his own military background in the Air Force. So whenever he busts out a sly comment on a group email chain or shows up on Halloween dressed in an outrageous costume, we all live for it.

Rob likes to chat sports with his cubicle mates and he’s affectionately known around the office as a “cake monster.” He loves it when our office celebrates anything with a cake. He is always first in line for his slice!

According to his cubicle neighbor, Lyndsay, Rob sings a lot. Apparently, he’ll sing anything from heavy metal to rap and random 80’s jams. Asked to describe his singing, she quipped, “well, he’s not quiet about it!” But Lyndsay thinks it’s a funny quirk and enjoys it about him. Rob also knows a lot of random movie quotes and likes to throw them out in conversation to see who picks up on them. We don’t think he slipped any into this interview, but maybe he did!

What’s your favorite season?
Definitely summer.

Where did you grow up?
Oakland, Maine.

What’s your favorite smell?
It’s gonna sound really strange, but I like the smell of hockey locker rooms. [he laughs] I’ve been around them for so long that it feels comfortable when I smell that smell.

What do you listen to in the car?
Uh wow, as my cube-mates will tell you, I listen to a wide range of stuff. I have classical, sometimes I’ll tune up Marilyn Manson, sometimes I have country going, I have 80’s stations going. I have XM in the car, so I have all these stations locked in. There are really no favorites.

Describe your happy place.
Once again, I’d have to say the hockey rinks. Watching my kids play. And skating with old timers.

What’s your favorite thing about Relyco?
I think it’s just the general family-type attitude around here. Everyone knows everybody and gets along. Everyone is eager to help you.

If you could talk to your 16-year-old self, what advice would you give?
Probably the same advice I gave my 16-year-old son about six years ago. It’s just: take advantage of opportunities. If you want something, go and get it. Don’t let it slip away.

Your house is on fire, what’s the one thing you grab?
If I’m assuming that my kids and pets are already outside…there are a couple of really nice family portraits. I’d probably grab those. They are from back when the kids were just babies.

Where is/was your favorite place to visit while traveling?
Probably California. I have a lot of relatives in the LA area and I really have a great time when I go see them.

What’s your favorite song to dance to?
The Romantics – What I Like About You

If you could hang out with someone (living or deceased) for the day, who would you pick?
Can I pick two? One would be my grandfather on my father’s side. The other would be Ted Williams.

What’s considered your specialty at Relyco?
I believe it would be working with the military because I was in it for six years. That’s kind of my sweet spot there. I know the lingo and jargon they use and what they’re going through with their purchasing process.

Trish Murdoch
Trish Murdoch, Accounting Manager

Trish Murdoch is dedicated, hard-working and detail-oriented. She’s also a sweet person with a kind temperament. She is family-oriented, which you’ll notice in her interview below; a couple of times she mentions her daughter, who is currently serving as a firefighter for the Air National Guard.

Trish has been at Relyco for over 11 years and in that time she has held a few jobs here. She is our only employee who has worked in sales, customer service, purchasing and accounting. Her experiences while working in multiple departments have given her a unique perspective about the company as a whole. She recognizes how our individual strengths and expertise contributes to the larger picture.

As our Accounting Manager, Trish focuses on billing, collections, recording income and reporting. Her work is very busy, though you wouldn’t necessarily know that based on Trish’s calm demeanor. But she can be full of surprises! Sure, she generally seems pretty low-key, but when we have staff celebrations she has been known to bust a move or two on the dance floor. She has also revealed herself to be an excellent singer; Trish joined the band for a couple of songs at this summer’s staff party…and she knocked it out of the park! We all loved it.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Charismatic, serious (at times), loving.

How long is your commute to work?
15 minutes.

Where did you grow up?
In a little town called Allenstown. It’s between Hooksett and Concord, New Hampshire.

Who was the last person you texted?
My daughter.

Do you have a favorite pen?

Trish pen
Trish’s favorite pen

What do you wish your customers knew?
That we focus on building long-standing customer relationships. We also focus on being cutting-edge and providing out of the box solutions. We work super hard to do it. We’re really caring and honest people behind the scenes. When you work with us, you will get a person, not a robot.

Describe your happy place.
Anywhere that I would be spending time with family.

If you could talk to your 16-year-old self, what advice would you give?
Listen more. Learn from others that know more than you.

Your house is on fire, what’s the one thing you grab?
My father. Followed quickly by car keys I guess. [She laughs] Open the doors and let the animals out. My daughter is grown and gone, by the way, otherwise she’d be on there too.

Describe Relyco in three words/phrases.
Unique, relationship-oriented, do the right thing.

Where is/was your favorite place to visit while traveling?
I love the White Mountains.

If you could hang out with someone (living or deceased) for the day, who would you pick?
My grandfather.

Michael Batchelder has worked at Relyco for almost eight years. With Cindy and Deb, he rounds out the three-person team of Client Service Representatives. We described the CSR position in detail in Cindy’s post, so check that out if you’re interested in learning about Michael’s day-to-day at Relyco. When asked to describe Michael, Cindy and Deb mentioned that he’s their go-to person for tech questions because Michael has often already worked out a shortcut to solve whatever their problem is. Michael calls himself “overly-organized” because he likes to do things efficiently, with as few steps as possible. (Deb just affectionately calls him a perfectionist.)

When asked to describe Michael, his co-workers immediately noted his sarcasm and dry sense of humor, which is peppered throughout this interview. Nobody else gave a funny response to the question about their commute to work, that’s for sure!

What’s your favorite season?
I’m a fan of fall.

How long is your commute to work?
It’s about 35 minutes, uphill both ways.

Where did you grow up?
Central Maine.

Do you drink coffee or tea in the morning?
Flavored coffee. I can’t do the real stuff, it’s just too much.

What’s your favorite smell?
I love the smell of vanilla.

Who was the last person you texted?
My best friend in Texas.

Do you have a favorite pen?
I kind of do. I have to write in blue, it’s nothing against the other colors, but I just have to write in blue. And it needs to be the medium point, I don’t do ultra-fine or anything. It just flows better to me.

Describe your happy place.
I’m a homebody, so any day that I can just curl up in a chair with my Kindle is nice for me.

If you could talk to your 16-year-old self, what advice would you give?
Be brave, step outside your comfort zone because it took me awhile to get there. As a teenager, I cared way too much about what everyone thought.

Where is/was your favorite place to visit while traveling?
I’m not much of a traveler. But I try to go home to visit my parents several times a year and it grounds me.

What’s your favorite song to dance to?
Not really a favorite song. But I’m definitely one of those insane people you see behind the wheel singing and the head’s bobbing.

If you could hang out with someone (living or deceased) for the day, who would you pick?
I love me some Dolly Parton. Everything I see her on, I just think, she would have to be a hoot to hang out with!

Debra Dearborn has been at Relyco for over 15 years. She’s one of our Client Service Representatives, which makes her part of a three person team. Learn more about CSRs by checking out the description on Cindy’s post.

Deb initially comes across as shy and quiet, but once you get to know her, you’ll find that she’s really sweet and funny. She’s close friends with Cindy: they lunch together every day and their cubicles are next to each other. Before she was at that desk, Deb used to be stationed across from Kara’s office. They became good buds and now Kara calls Deb her “work mom.” Apparently, Deb is always trying to feed Kara and checks in with her whenever Kara is traveling. When asked for Deb stories, Mary Jo revealed that trying to feed her co-workers is actually pretty standard. MJ said, “She’s part Italian. Deb is always trying to give you food. No food is enough. You eat some and then you eat some more and then she wants you to have more. …But her ricotta cake is to die for!”

We like to tease her about it, but we love that Deb is really sensitive and caring. We really appreciate all that she does! Here she is in her own words:

What’s your favorite season?
Spring.

How long is your commute to work?
20 minutes.

Where did you grow up?
I lived in Somersworth, New Hampshire and Wakefield, Massachusetts.

What’s your favorite smell?
The fresh air of spring and lilacs.

Who was the last person you texted?
My husband.

Do you have a favorite pen?

Deb’s favorite pen.

What do you listen to in the car?
Either silence or 92.5.

Describe your happy place.
A good book.

If you could talk to your 16-year-old self, what advice would you give?
REALLY?! [she laughs] That’s what I would tell myself.

Your house is on fire, what’s the one thing you grab?
My cats and my husband…my husband first!

What’s your favorite song to dance to?
If there is one song that would get the house moving, it’s Love Shack. [Mary Jo also chose that song.] And another song to dance to is Harvest Moon by Neil Young.

What’s considered your specialty at Relyco?
Details.

Mycca Dutson is an Account Manager at Relyco. A year ago, Relyco acquired Piracle Supply Sales. Mycca was a Supplies Account Manager at Piracle and we brought her on board as a full-time Relyco employee during the acquisition. We know how much her customers love her! They are glad to continue working with the same person and we are thrilled to have Mycca as part of the Relyco family!

She works out of the Utah office, so the New Hampshire Relyco team doesn’t get to see her in person all that often. But she’s an early riser, so Mycca works East Coast hours to align with our NH office. We message, email and chat on the phone with her so much that it feels like she is here. Part of that is because she is extremely prompt about responding to emails; she will always get back to you immediately and her emails are consistently cheerful, which matches her enthusiastic personality.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Reliable, compassionate, loyal.

What’s your favorite season?
Spring, it’s when everything starts waking up from the cold winter months and becomes beautiful again. Flowers start to come back, birds are chirping and it starts to warm up again!

Where did you grow up?
I’ve lived in Utah all my life, but different cities.

What’s your favorite smell?
Russian olive trees in the middle of summer. It’s a sweet smell. I love it. It’s only a couple of weeks that you can smell them.

What do you wish your customers knew?
That I really care about them. I do my best to meet their needs.

What do you listen to in the car?
My kids fighting mostly. (she laughs)

Describe your happy place.
I would say being with my family. Just spending time. I like to camp, so maybe camping.

What’s your favorite thing about Relyco?
You’re treated like a person and not a number. Whether you’re an employee or a customer!

If you could talk to your 16-year-old self, what advice would you give?
Oh wow! So much! Appreciate things more and spend more time with family. Not care so much about your boyfriend of the moment or your friends who aren’t your friends six months later.

Where is/was your favorite place to visit while traveling?
Well, I am not a good traveler. I hate to fly. I am a terrible flier, just horrible. I don’t outwardly freak out…I’m not the crazy person on the plane. But I don’t like to travel. So I would say California at the ocean is my favorite place that I’ve ever been.

What’s your favorite song to dance to?
Whatever my kids are being silly about. We like to do that sometimes. We’ll turn on the radio and be weird.

If you could hang out with someone (living or deceased) for the day, who would you pick?
I would pick my mom. She died ten days after I had my second son – in an accident. So it would really be nice to talk to her again.

Much like Mike Steinberg, when Mycca answered that final question honestly, she bounced back from it. We concluded the interview and she slipped right back into her usual friendly self. Her resilience after mentioning such a painful topic was impressive. We appreciate that she would share something so personal so that we could get to know her better.

As we’ve mentioned, Mycca works with Piracle customers. To contact her, send her an email at mdutson@relyco.com or connect with her on LinkedIn. To contact Relyco, give us a call at 800-777-7359. You can also click here or on the button below.

Cindy has worked here for over 16 years! We have a three person CSR team and they have extremely busy jobs. Cindy can initially come across as a pretty quiet person, but once you speak to her, you’ll realize that she’s really sweet and quite chipper! She’s always friendly and just all-around pleasant.

Cindy Talon is one of our Client Services Representatives. She has worked at Relyco for 16 years! We have a three person CSR team and they have extremely busy jobs; there is never a dull moment for them! CSRs process all orders. They follow up with our warehouses, provide customers with order status updates and communicate tracking information once the product ships. For clients with custom orders, they exchange proofs and files, which means that they spend quite a bit of time corresponding and coordinating with those customers.

But enough about what she does, we want to talk about Cindy, the person! When we asked around the office to see if anyone had some fun stories or interesting anecdotes about Cindy, Mary Jo dropped this funny tidbit: Cindy and Brenda are third cousins. They worked together for four or five years before they discovered the familial connection! How wild is that?!

Cindy can initially come across as a pretty quiet person, but once you speak to her, you’ll realize that she’s really sweet and quite chipper! She’s always friendly and just all-around pleasant.

Cindy loves to travel. In fact, her trip to Iceland inspired Kara to go! She also enjoys camping. She and her husband just purchased a camper, so this summer will probably involve some fun camping adventures.

Lyndsay is naturally outgoing and inquisitive by nature. She has a self-deprecating sense of humor and, when paired with her dry delivery, she is hilarious. She’s quick to laugh – at herself or with others – and always seems to be in a good mood. Interviewing her was a treat:

What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Loyal, honest, reliable.

What’s your favorite season?
Fall. LOVE sweater weather.

How long is your commute to work?
About a half an hour, ample jam session time.

Where did you grow up?
Born and raised in Maine.

Do you drink coffee or tea in the morning?
Coffee.

What’s your favorite smell?
Savory foods.

What do you listen to in the car?
Radio, and when I get really sick of radio, I go old-school to CDs. And there’s some Pandora in there from time to time.

Describe your happy place.
If you asked me three years ago, I would have said on a tropical island beach with a cocktail in my hand. That was pre-children. [laughs] My excitement these days consists of sitting on the couch with my family watching a new movie. [laughs]

What’s your favorite thing about Relyco?
The wonderful people and the wealth of knowledge that they have. And the vast number of product offerings.

Your house is on fire, what’s the one thing you grab?
My child, of course. [laughs] Then my dog, I’m assuming my husband is on his own. He can figure it out. [more laughs]

Where is/was your favorite place to visit while traveling?
Any place warm and tropical.

What’s your favorite song to dance to?
Too many to mention. Depends on the season.
