Relyco’s Four Years of Charitable Giving at PRINT

It wasn’t just all about products for us at PRINT18, we also celebrated the fourth year of our annual Colors for Charity program! This year, we supported the American Cancer Society, Parkinson’s Foundation and Wounded Warrior Project.

Charity Tags

It wasn’t just all about products for us at PRINT18, we also celebrated the fourth year of our annual Colors for Charity program! For the program, we printed 300 tags on our REVLAR Colors waterproof synthetic paper and gave them away as badges. Each color represents one charity. Everyone who stopped by our booth was encouraged to choose a charity badge and we pledged to make a $5 donation to their choice.

Colors-for-CharityThis program serves as an effective way to put our company’s values on display during the show…literally! (We put the badges right on our poster stands.) We’ve also found that it’s a wonderful way to break the ice and find some common ground – outside of print – while chatting with folks. Obviously, everyone is at PRINT to talk about business and the print industry, but we also value making human connections on a deeper level through these charity badges; we’re honored whenever folks share their personal stories or connections to the charities.

This year, the charities were American Cancer Society, Parkinson’s Foundation and Wounded Warrior Project. These three charities are particularly near and dear to our hearts; they were selected and voted on by Relyco employees earlier this year. Relyco donated a total of $1,500 to these three worthy organizations this week. We’d like to thank everyone who stopped by our booth and participated!

Stand Out Products at PRINT18 & Looking Ahead

We had an excellent time at PRINT18 this year! In addition to our standard products, we showcased our recently expanded line of REVLAR waterproof synthetic papers and our new Ultrasilver metallic paper! Now, we’re looking ahead to what’s next.

PRINT18-Relyco-Team
Our Relyco PRINT team

We had an excellent time at PRINT18 this year! Our team was delighted to meet with print shops, printers and OEMs to chat about their pain points and the goals they’d like to achieve. Oftentimes, we found that their mission aligned with our own! What do we bring to the table? Through our media and resources, we help our customers expand print offerings and reach new markets with new solutions.

Most buzzed about products

At the show, we showcased our recently expanded line of synthetic papers and received great feedback about our new REVLAR products. Folks were particularly interested in REVLAR Soft for a variety of applications; its uniquely smooth feel and how easy it is to fold make REVLAR Soft ideal for menus, trail maps, guides and brochures.

We also introduced another new product at PRINT18: Ultrasilver. Ultrasilver is a metallic, eye-catching paper that works well with white & color toners. There was a lot of excitement at the show for that product and the possibilities it opens up for invitations, signage, tickets and more!

What’s next for us?

The PRINT show often serves as a tool for us to gauge where the market is heading and gets us planning for the future. Over the next several months, we’ll be focusing our attention on better serving a few key industries. Part of that effort will involve updating our website to improve the user experience overall. Do you have any suggestions? Let us know here. We would love to hear from you!

New England Restaurants Can Finally 86 Paper Menus

We recently returned from exhibiting at the New England Food Show in Boston! Attendees were shocked to discover that waterproof menus exist! Many of them had never even heard of synthetic waterproof paper, so the idea of spill-proof, tear-proof and washable menus was mind-blowing. Eliminating all paper menu related problems at once? Yes, please!

New England Food ShowSome of our staff recently returned from exhibiting at the New England Food Show in Boston! Our team (Keith, Jon, Brenda, Tyler and Stephanie) had a tasty time while walking around the show. They came back with tales of super-stuffed lobster ravioli, fancy cheeses, boutique coffees, farm-to-market produce, gourmet fish and generously-sized craft cocktails! While the rest of us struggled to rein in our jealousy, the other stories about networking opportunities and takeaways from the show came out…and a new idea for our online store was formed! More on that later.

What we heard at the show

Our team enjoyed chatting with show attendees and exhibitors about synthetic paper. The conversations that took place at our booth revealed that about 70% of restaurants use some kind of sleeve or booklet to protect their menus, but they had plenty of complaints about it! Menus in sleeves end up getting food and liquids stuck between the plastic and the paper, which is unappetizing and dirty, while booklets are cumbersome and heavy.

The remaining 30% of restaurants are laminating or using nothing to protect their standard paper. Those folks had plenty to complain about too! Lamination is expensive, time-consuming and downright unattractive as it ages, while standard paper just doesn’t hold up at all. We heard from folks who are throwing away their paper menus every single day! Eek! That seems wasteful and expensive, right?

Next steps

We’re excited to continue to educate restaurant owners and managers about the cost-savings and long-term durability of waterproof menus and paper. Truly! Waterproof paper is a fun product to talk about and show off. We’ll be attending the National Restaurant Association’s show again this year to do just that.

Menu Frustrations? Let’s Meet Up at the New England Food Show!

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be exhibiting at the New England Food Show on February 25-27 at the Boston Convention Center. We’ll be showcasing our waterproof menus at booth #925 with videos, a printer and tons of samples.

New England Food Show

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be exhibiting at the New England Food Show on February 25-27 at the Boston Convention Center. We had such a fantastic time at the National Restaurant Association’s show in Chicago last year that we jumped at the chance to go to our own region’s version of the show this year! As a New Hampshire-based company, it’s safe to say that we’re partial to Boston. (#GoSox) It’s a wicked fun city and we’re looking forward to visiting with New England food & beverage folks at this show!

We have grand plans

We’ll be exhibiting at booth #925 and showcasing our REVLAR waterproof, tear-proof menus and other paper solutions. There will be videos playing (like the ones below) so you can watch our paper solutions in action. We’ll be printing samples on a printer right at our booth, so you can see and feel our menus on the spot! These menus can withstand spills, frequent handling, rough treatment and they are washable. The REVLAR synthetic material is also FDA approved as a food contact substance (FCS), which means that it’s safe to use around food.

What does the show offer?

If you’re in the food & beverage industry and based in/near New England, this is the show for you! Beyond the expo floor, there are educational sessions, culinary demonstrations, scrumptious tastings and keynote speakers. You can check out the full schedule of events here. NEFS has a thorough FAQ page that will answer most of your questions.

Kids Camp so the kiddos don’t have to stay at home

On the FAQ page, you’ll notice that no one under the age of 18 is allowed on the NEFS floor at any time. Luckily, children are welcome to attend NEFS Kids Camp, which takes place right at the Boston Convention Center. All kids are welcome and will be accommodated, from infants to teenagers!

Free passes for food & beverage folks

The New England Food Show is not open to the general public, which means that it will be hyper-focused and all the more beneficial for people in the food & beverage and lodging industries. If you fall into that category, but you’re still on the fence about attending, then we have an extra incentive for you: we have free passes to share! Just go to the show’s registration page and use code 30208 when you register. All we ask is that you stop by our booth #925 to say hi!

If you can’t attend the show, you can still request a waterproof menu sample kit here or by clicking below. It contains all of the samples that we’ll have at the show!

This show is the best opportunity for independent retailers and wholesalers to explore the latest technologies, products and solutions within the grocery industry.

FDA approved solutions for grocers

We’re looking forward to the opportunity to showcase all of our paper solutions for grocery stores, but we’re particularly excited to present our synthetic and durable papers. Our REVLAR waterproof paper is FDA approved as a food contact substance (FCS), which makes it a safe material to place inside of deli/seafood counters, nestled amongst produce and anywhere else that signage or labels could come in direct contact with food.

What else can we offer?

We have worked with many grocery stores over the years – everything from single local shops to national supermarkets. We’ll be bringing samples of these products to the show:

Relyco Donates $1,500 with 3rd Annual Vibrants for Charity

We are just coming off of an inspiring and exciting week at our largest trade show, PRINT17! This was the third year that we incorporated our Vibrants for Charities program into our booth and it was just as rewarding as ever! Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and participated.

We are just coming off of an inspiring and exciting week at our largest trade show, PRINT17! This was the third year that we incorporated our Vibrants for Charities program into our booth and it was just as rewarding as ever! Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and participated. We couldn’t have done it without you!

For the program, we print 300 colorful charity tags on our REVLAR Vibrant Colors durable paper and turn them into badges. Each color represents one charity. Everyone who stopped by our booth was encouraged to choose a charity badge and we pledged to make a $5 donation to their choice. This year, the supported charities were 5 Gyres, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, National MS Society, ASPCA and Wounded Warrior Project. Relyco donated a total of $1,500 to these six organizations last week.

We’ve found that this program is a great way to communicate our company’s values during the show, while also creating a bridge to build connections with booth visitors. When selecting their charity, many folks share stories with our team about why they are choosing it. We are honored and touched to hear those personal accounts and we often share our own stories too. The six charities are chosen by Relyco employees each year, so we all have our personal ties and reasons to select them.

This year, we also gave away a reusable bag at our booth, which was a big hit! When selecting the bags, we opted to order from ChicoBag, in part because they were running an Earth Day program. During the month of April, ChicoBag donated part of their proceeds to 5Gyres, which is an organization that works to reduce plastic pollution in the ocean. $4357 was donated by Chico Bag to 5Gyres during that month! We’re proud that our order helped with that.

ChicoBag’s donation to an environmental organization aligned with our own commitment to giving, so it all just felt right. By offering both the bags and charity tags as giveaways at PRINT17, we were able to come full circle with our mission to give back. Learn more about our commitment to giving here.

At the show, we also received positive feedback about the tags from marketers and graphic designers who were impressed by the unique way that we utilized colorful durable paper. To see these vibrant colors up close and personal, request a free sample kit below.

The Relyco Verdict Is In: Print Is Alive & Thriving

We always find the large print shows beneficial because there are so many great opportunities there; from interacting and collaborating with our OEM partners and industry peers, to meeting and talking with our customers and prospective customers, we love it all! When our team returned, we asked them to describe their top takeaways from this year’s show.

print is alive

We had a fantastic time at PRINT17! We always find the PRINT/GRAPH EXPO shows beneficial because there are so many great opportunities there; from interacting and collaborating with our OEM partners and industry peers, to meeting and talking with our customers and prospective customers, we love it all!

It may sound like we’re tooting our own horn here, but it was really exciting to see that our unique booth set-up and cityscape backdrop seemed to draw folks in. Not only is it attractive, but we found that our backdrop is a great conversation starter too! We like having something that’s outside the norm. Some people even posed for photos with the backdrop, which was really gratifying for our creative team!

PRINT also offers us the chance to demonstrate one of our company’s core values at the show: charitable giving. This was the third year that we incorporated our Vibrants for Charities program into our booth. We enjoyed sharing our passion for giving, while welcoming others to participate as well!

When our team returned from their time in Chicago, we asked them to describe their top takeaways from this year’s show. Here they are:

It’s all about what’s NEW, from people to products

“Print is not DEAD!! There are a lot of amazing things being produced in the print world. For the first time, I am seeing a younger crowd come into the industry and that is desperately needed.” – Mike Steinberg, CEO & Owner

“Customers are looking for new, innovative products. They want to increase the ROI with the new digital printers that they’re investing in. They’re looking for efficient, cost-effective products that will bring value to their customer base. The days of printing in just black and white are over. People want color, texture and a way to make an emotional connection. That’s where we can offer custom solutions that are unique to each company.” – Bruce Steinberg, President

Our partners are successfully advancing print technology

“Top of my list would be the continuing progress that is being made with the laser technology to make it more like traditional printing presses. There are new registration systems on these new printers that have really good quality imaging. Back in the day when we went to the shows, there were all sorts of printing presses there and then there were digital color printers there too, but the quality was awful. The speed was slow. We used to look at it and say, ‘it’ll never be like conventional print.’ But I was talking to a rep from one of the OEMs this year and she was showing me the registration system. It automatically brings the image into registration, so you don’t have to do anything anymore.” – Keith Zub, Senior Vice President

“It was another great experience connecting with new and existing OEM and technology partners. I enjoyed learning about the new print technologies, including specialty inks and the ability to print on thicker substrates, which will help Relyco immensely in positioning the right solution for their engines. These features are key elements when providing specialty paper solutions to customers, which has helped us earn ‘THE SPECIALTY PAPER EXPERTS’ title! I also learned more about new post-processing (post-printing) solutions to help streamline/improve customers’ workflows. Technology – I LOVE IT!” – Brenda Chaisson, Partner Sales Manager/New Business Development

Talking to customers is extremely rewarding

“As a sales and marketing leader at Relyco, it is always encouraging and validating when customer after customer coming into the booth compliments Relyco’s dedication to innovation, quality and most importantly, customer service. The print industry is competitive – oftentimes, customer service and customer engagement is the only thing that differentiates one company from another. That’s why we’ve always put such a major emphasis on treating our customers the best we can. Mike Steinberg’s motto has always rung true over the last 30 years: “good news, bad news, no news – communicate with your customer.” It’s a mentality and tone that has been set since the start of Relyco. For me, PRINT is an event that I use to evaluate how we as a company are performing and there is no better way to do that than to speak with our customers. The feedback was overwhelming and I am proud to serve our customers and want to thank them for putting such faith in us.” – Jon Neill, Vice President of Sales & Marketing

We learned so much at this year’s show! From exploring new printing technology, to connecting with customers and growing our partnerships with our peers, we had an excellent and inspiring week! We look forward to attending GRAPH EXPO 2018 next year!

Get The Most Out Of Your NRA Show Experience!

We’ve compiled a short list detailing exactly what the show has to offer in the hopes that you can use it to get the most out of your NRA Show experience.

NRA Show

The big day is here! NRA Show has begun. To help you get the most out the crazy four days ahead, we’ve compiled a short list detailing exactly what the show has to offer in the hopes that you can use it to get the most out of your NRA Show experience.

1) Explore

NRA Show has a lot going on.  There is an amazing assortment of:

  • 2,208 exhibitors
  • Specialty pavilions
  • Live cooking demos
  • Educational sessions
  • Hands-on workshops

That means there’s plenty to keep you busy! As we mentioned in our other blog post with tips for NRA Show, we highly recommend that you download the show’s app to help you stay organized and informed. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when looking at all the options, but the app boils it down and allows you to build your own schedule.

2) Take advantage of those sessions

Squeeze maximum value out of your NRA Show pass by attending some of the 90+ educational sessions that are offered. These sessions cover various topics and come in six main tracks. They are offered all four days of the show, Saturday through Tuesday. You can discover the latest trends to keep your operation on the cutting edge, while finding solutions to the challenges you face. Check out the full list of sessions and glance through a few of the session titles below:

  • Cold Brew Coffee: Why is it “Hot”?
  • Think Outside the Pickle
  • Lead Like a Chef: Seven Steps to Becoming a Great Leader
  • Building an Enduring Restaurant Following
  • Waste Not, Want Not
  • Restaurant Accounting Best Practices
  • Millennials and the Future of the Hospitality Industry

3) Don’t forget to take some downtime

Yes, sessions and meeting with exhibitors can be educational and rewarding, but that much “on” time can also become exhausting. Try not to over-schedule. That’s a surefire way to ruin the experience for yourself. Take a little time off to explore Chicago; the city has so much to offer! We highly recommend visiting Millennium Park to check out the sculptures and art installations. Cloud Gate (aka The Bean) is particularly fun! The John Hancock Observation Desk is also a must-see. You already know this, but the dining options in Chicago are legendary, so be sure to treat yourself a few times! NRA Show is also putting on some great after-hours events, which you can check out.

Of course, once you’re recharged and ready to visit exhibitors again, make sure to stop by booth #10147 in Lakeside Center to say “hello” to the Relyco Team! We look forward to seeing you at the show!

We’re really excited to attend NRA Show 2017! This year’s show takes place at McCormick Place in Chicago. NRA Show 2017

We’re really excited to attend NRA Show 2017! This year’s show takes place at McCormick Place in Chicago. It includes 2,208 exhibitors, as well as free tastings, live demonstrations, 90+ educational sessions, networking opportunities and special events. Everything at this show is designed to inspire and engage folks in the restaurant and food distribution industry. Here are some tips to ensure that you have all of the information you need to have a great experience!

1) Get the app

A little bit of planning can go a long way! NRA Show has created a mobile app to help you stay informed and organized. You can easily access schedules, sessions, maps, speakers, exhibitor info…pretty much everything. There is even a message and friends feature! We’d recommend downloading the app now and getting familiar with it before your arrival. Head over to the app store on your device and search for “NRA Show” to find the NRA Show 17 app. Once you’ve downloaded it, you can build your own schedule and bookmark sessions or exhibitors that are of interest to you. Do a search for “Relyco.” Once you’re viewing our profile, hit the calendar icon to add us to your schedule or tap the star icon to bookmark our booth. We’d love to see you!

2) Know what to expect

Make sure that you’ve got the basics down. There are comprehensive FAQ pages on the NRA Show website for both exhibitors and attendees. Here are some highlights:

  • The show runs from May 20 – 23
    Saturday – Monday: 9:30am – 5:00pm
    Tuesday: 9:30am – 3:00pm
  • NRA Show is for trade only, it is not open to the public. It is open to professionals involved in the restaurant, food service and hospitality industry.
  • Kids (including infants & toddlers) are not allowed. No one under 16 years of age is permitted on the floor.
  • Dress code is business casual.

3) Determine your route

Whether you’re staying at a hotel, taking public transit or planning to drive and park, you definitely want to nail down your arrival in advance. Your plan for a mode of transportation to the show should not be: “Oh, I’ll just wing it!” That’s a recipe for a stressful morning and there’s no need for it. You can avoid future hassle by visiting the transportation page on the NRA Show 2017 website now.

PRO TIP: Take advantage of that hotel shuttle! If you are staying at any of those hotels – and there are a lot on that list – use the shuttle! Shuttles run every 20 – 25 minutes. Just make sure you’re taking the correct route to get back to your hotel after the show.

  • Saturday, May 20 – Monday, May 22
    From Hotels:  7:30am – 2:00pm
    To Hotels:  2:00pm – 6:00pm
  • Tuesday, May 23
    From Hotels:  7:30am – 12:00 pm
    To Hotels:  12:00pm – 4:00 pm

4) Think about your WiFi needs

McCormick Place does offer complimentary WiFi in the public/function spaces, but don’t expect it to be fast. Emails and basic websites will work fine, but due to high traffic from users at the show, you should be prepared for an unsteady and sometimes weak signal.

There are options to upgrade your WiFi and they can be purchased directly from your device once you’re at the show. Rates start at $9.95 per day. You can find more information about cost and specs at McCormick Place’s wireless page.

Feeling ready?! If you need answers to any lingering questions, be sure to check out the NRA Show website. Oh, and don’t forget to stop by booth #10147 in the Lakeside Center area and say hello to the Relyco Team!
